Nonprofit Uses Video to Supplement Online Conference

SBA of the Year Honored at Video Taping

THE SITUATION

Each year, NJASBO (New Jersey Association of School Business Officials) selects the School Business Administrator of the Year from among six of its membership-nominated colleagues who receive the Distinguished Service Award for their long and dedicated service to the organization and their school districts. Traditionally, the SBA of the Year is honored with a surprise visit from NJASBO leadership, as well as being heralded at NJASBO’s annual conference in June. The pandemic forced the conference to an online format in 2021.

THE STRATEGY

NJASBO wanted to share with its members the excitement of giving the news to Frank Ceurvels, former Ramapo Indian Hills School District Business Administrator and the SBA of the Year. NJASBO worked with Laura Bishop Communications and McHenry Creative Services (MCS) to produce a surprise video event. LBC produced the event, while MCS captured the video. NJASBO helped the team edit and finalize the video.

THE WIN

The video was uploaded to the NJASBO website and made available to members, initially through an email alert. The video gained additional exposure when used in conjunction with other videos produced by LBC and recorded by MCS for the online conference in June 2021. These included the swearing in of new officers and the passing of the gavel from the outgoing to the incoming president.
