Redefining Culture After Tragedy

Newsletter Highlights Climate of Caring

THE SITUATION

When Superintendent Michelle CarneyRay-Yoder, Ed.D. (Dr. CRY) came to Central Regional School District in 2024, she inherited a district that was still reeling from a community tragedy. Recognizing the immense impact of that loss and the communications issues arising from grief, Dr. CRY, alongside staff and the Board of Education, assigned top priority to improving the culture of the district and strengthening its communications.

THE STRATEGY

Dr. CRY created a climate within the district where every student is loved, seen and heard. This philosophy translates to the district’s employees, who are collectively referred to as “staffulty,” placing them all on equal footing and as part of the same team driving the positive culture.

To communicate this new culture, Laura Bishop Communications worked with Dr. CRY to develop a district newsletter, The Golden Eagle Gazette. Launched in digital format in September 2024, The Golden Eagle Gazette celebrates student achievement and the dedication of staffulty to the educational and personal growth of students. LBC guides the selection of content, edits for a common voice and designs a newsletter that is fun, colorful and engaging.

The Golden Eagle Gazette is presented as an Issuu flipbook and published to the Golden Eagle Updates section of the Central Regional School District website. It is distributed via email to more than 3,000 parents, guardians, faculty and staff in the district. Each issue is also posted to the district’s Facebook, X and Instagram accounts.

THE WIN

Since its launch, the newsletter has become a central communications vehicle for the district and has been a hit with the district’s staffulty, parents/guardians and external community. The communication has received positive public feedback for its content and design.

The culture and climate of the district has changed for the better and LBC’s storytelling and design talents help us communicate that message to our community through The Golden Eagle Gazette.”
