Media Efforts Establish National Thought Leaders

THE SITUATION

Floodproofing.com, a Mount Royal, N.J.-based flood mitigation company, is an international leader in protecting communities and businesses from the devastating effects of flooding. However, flood mitigation is a fledgling industry that has struggled to achieve the same public awareness that the fire protection industry has gained.

Working with Floodproofing.com, Laura Bishop Communications developed and executed a proactive media relations campaign to improve public awareness of the flood mitigation industry, establish the Floodproofing.com executive team and the company’s flood mitigation specialists as thought leaders, and solidify Floodproofing.com’s position as an international leader in flood mitigation and disaster preparedness.

THE STRATEGY

LBC held meetings with Floodproofing.com leadership to learn about the company’s products, customers, competitors, target audiences, strategic goals and political issues impacting the industry.

LBC then conducted further research on professional organizations and trade publications associated with the flood mitigation industry and media markets in regions of the country most impacted by flooding.

The analysis identified an opportunity for the flood mitigation industry and Floodproofing.com to have a greater voice in the national conversation about disaster preparedness.

THE WIN

The national campaign focusing on trade publications resulted in several high-profile placements in The Hill, Popular Mechanics, Construction Dive, Retrofit Magazine (1, 2), Residential Resource Magazine, MarketScale, and DataCenter Knowledge. This does not include more than a dozen instances of Floodproofing.com experts quoted in major metro daily newspapers and trade publications. This campaign reached a combined audience of more than 171 million readers and 2,000 –plus direct readers on average. These placements resulted in over $2.5 million in assessed advertising value.

The campaign earned a 2026 New Jersey Public Relations Association Pyramid Award for media relations campaign.
